Former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne has called off plans to organise a Twenty20 match featuring former cricketing greats and celebrities to raise money for the Queesland flood victims.
Warne had planned a charity match between his XI and a team led by former England captain Michael Vaughan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground before the England-Australia one-day international on January 30.
The spin legend announced the news to cancel the match through his tweeter account.
"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, after discussions with everyone concerned (about) a flood game, it won't be happening," Warne wrote. "Thank you so much for all help and support and offers of assist. We will continue to try and raise as much as we can to help in other ways," he tweeted.
Warne also thanked former England fast bowler Darren Gough and Adam Hollioake for their efforts.
"To Adam and Goughy who have helped me try to put game on I thank you guys so much. Let's keep helping out in other ways and raise $$$$," he tweeted.
The Australian great, however, vowed to find alternative fundraising methods.
"To all the people affected by the terrible floods we are all thinking of you very much and will continue to support and help out. The flood disaster and this terrible tragedy will need a lot of commitment, help and support from all of us for a long time not just now," he wrote.
