Sachin thanks fans for trusting his integrity

Sachin Tendulkar feels that he can't thank his countrymen enough for the amount of faith they have showed in his integrity during his 21 illustrious years in international cricket.
In the recently released book 'Sach' written by noted scribe Gautam Bhattacharya, one gets to know the rare emotional side of the maestro as he spoke on a host of issues including how the entire country supported him during the ball-tampering episode in 2001 tour of South Africa.

Would like to win WC for Sachin: Kohli

Talented batsman Virat Kohli feels that it would be the best gift to Sachin Tendulkar if the Indian team can win the cricket World Cup which will start in another two weeks time.
"What he (Sachin) has achieved in his entire career, I don't think anyone else will be able to achieve that. So it will be a great thing if we can win the World Cup not only for our fans but also for Sachin who is a special person," the youngster commented during an interaction with the media at a promotional event here today.

WC win will be the best gift to Sachin: Dhoni

As Sachin Tendulkar gears up to play probably his last World Cup, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Indian cricket team is desperate to make it a special one for him by gifting the champion batsman the trophy which has eluded the side for 28 years.
In his two-decade long illustrious career, during which he has featured in five World Cups since 1992, Tendulkar has virtually every batting record under his belt but a world title is the only trophy which is missing from his cupboard.

I hope India win the WC for Sachin: Ojha

With World Cup Trophy being the missing feather from Sachin Tendulkar's dazzling cap, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha hopes that the tournament favourites India will do it this time as a special tribute to the milestone man.

For 37-year-old Tendulkar, who has scored more than 32,000 runs and 97 centuries in international cricket, it will be in all probability his last chance to lift the Cup.

India need to deliver for Tendulkar

Tendulkar makes his sixth and probably the last appearance in the showpiece event

The pair are a bowlers' nightmare and spectators' delight, capable of dominating any attack with exciting stroke-play and providing a blistering start.
Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli and Yusuf Pathan can also step up the run-rate with brilliant improvisation, while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's power-hitting in the closing overs has often stood the team in good stead.

Pak cricketers must learn from Sachin: Miandad

One never hears Sachin making tall claims about his performances: Miandad

Former captain and director-general of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Javed Miandad has urged Pakistani cricketers to learn from the achievements of Indian batting maestro, Sachin Tendulkar.
Rather than letting their on-field performance speak for them, Miandad feels that the players are happy to brag about their performance in media.

Tendulkar is by far the best batsman of his era: Lara

There is no superlative for Sachin: Lara

Sachin Tendulkar is by far the best batsman of his era, according to West Indies' batting legend Brian Lara who said it was an "honour" to rub shoulders with the champion Indian batsman during his playing days.
"Tendulkar is the best batsman of the world," Lara said on the sidelines of a cricket clinic at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday.
Asked if it was Tendulkar or Don Bradman, Lara added, "Respect his average (of 99.96) but haven't seen the Don batting. And making a comparison is very difficult for all of us."

We would like to win the WC for Sachin: Gambhir

Gambhir says that the team wants to win the WC for Tendulkar.

India opener Gautam Gambhir expressed confidence that the national team would do all it takes to win the upcoming World Cup for a certain Sachin Tendulkar, who will be making his sixth appearance in this mega event.
"I sincerely wish that this will not be Sachin's last World Cup and he would play one more. All members of the Indian side would like to win it for him," Gambhir said.
The dashing opener also felt that Yuvraj Singh's form would be crucial to India's fortunes in the tournament which is scheduled to begin from February 19 and ends on April 2.
"Yuvi can bat and bowl very nicely. He is a very passionate player," Gambhir said.
Contrary to the common perception that he is a 'party animal', Gambhir said that Yuvraj is a hard worker.
"The fact is that he devotes a lot of his time on cricket. He is a very focused and passionate player," Gambhir told in an interview to a News channel.

Sachin, Dravid, VVS must not go together: Ganguly

Kolkata: Breaking his silence after being ignored in the IPL auction, Sourav Ganguly on Saturday said he never did politics and was always transparent in what he did as a cricketer.

Sourav Ganguly says honesty and transparency are important virtues to have when you're at the top.
Indirectly taking a dig at the IPL snub during a programme, Ganguly said: "I never did politics. I would not have been here if I did politics. With my practical experiences I say whatever you do you will not be at the top all the time.

So when you are at the top, be transparent. The rule is same for all, be it in politics or sport. As a leader you must tell the truth. They might not like it but it's important to be clear with your colleagues," Ganguly said.

Having retired from international cricket, Ganguly continued playing in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders in the first three seasons but none of the 10 franchises showed any interest in the city's favourite son who now finds his cricketing career coming to an abrupt end.

Tendulkar's feat, Ashes show Test cricket is on top: Lorgat

Dubai: Sachin Tendulkar's historic 50th hundred, the fight for the number one spot between India and South Africa and the "enthralling" Ashes series show that Test cricket remains the pinnacle of the game, says ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat.

Sachin Tendulkar's historic 50th hundred and the Ashes series show that Test cricket remains the pinnacle of the game, says ICC CEO Haroon Lorgat.
"These are iconic series which clearly capture the imagination and interest of cricket lovers across the world. Everyone is talking Test cricket and the demand for tickets, particularly in Melbourne, it is very impressive," Lorgat said of the ongoing Ashes series which is locked at 1-1 after three Tests.

"I was fortunate to be in Adelaide a few weeks ago when they recorded their biggest attendance since the Bodyline series in 1932-33. Cricket Australia is now expecting crowds of more than 90,000 to watch the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. In South Africa I am delighted to hear so many people excited and following the respective Test series.

"It is pleasing to note the keen and growing interest at a time when we are formulating a Test League that will produce a Test champion every four years. Imagine the interest and contest that would unfold as teams vie for a top four place to qualify for the play-offs," he added.

Sreesanth fined for showing dissent

Cape Town: Indian pacer S Sreesanth was on Wednesday fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct by kicking boundary ropes after his two LBW appeals were turned down by umpires during the fourth day's play in the third Test against South Africa.

S Sreesanth was fined 10 per cent of his match fee for breaching ICC Code of Conduct by kicking boundary ropes.
Sreesanth pleaded guilty to contravening Level 1 offence (Section 2.1.2) of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings".
As Sreesanth accepted the decision without contest, there was no need for a hearing, an ICC statement said.
The incident took place when the India fast bowler kicked the boundary rope after his two LBW appeals were turned down in the previous over.
All Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
The charge was brought by Ian Gould and Simon Taufel of the Emirates Elite panel of ICC Umpires, third umpire Brian Jerling and fourth umpire Shaun George.

Sachin is God, God is Tendulkar! The little master after yesterday’s pyrotechnics holds the record for the highest ODI score. CONGRATULATIONS to him! "No record is unbreakable. Records are made to be broken and I would like to see an Indian breaking this record," Tendulkar said, dedicating the knock to all his fans.
